Alfred University: A tradition of excellence
Alfred University has a long-standing reputation for excellence. An outstanding record of academic achievement, research and outreach opportunities, and numerous campus activities combine to create an enriching and satisfying college experience.

Academics
Alfred University provides the facilities, technology and curriculum of a larger institution in a supportive, student-centered environment. Comprised of:

     • College of Business
     • Liberal Arts & Sciences
     • School of Art & Design
     • Inamori School of Engineering

Alfred University has been widely recognized for its academic excellence and distinguished faculty.

•In its 2010 "Guide to Best Colleges," U.S. News and World Report ranked AU third in its list of “Best Values,” what the guide calls "Great Schools at Great Prices," in the North.
•AU also ranked 20th among master's level institutions in the North.
•Every year since US News began ranking colleges and universities, Alfred University has been among the top 20 in the Northeast, considered the most competitive region in the U.S. News rankings.
•Alfred's Master of Fine Arts program in ceramic art is consistently recognized by U.S. News as the best in the nation and its ceramic engineering and materials science programs are also nationally acclaimed.
•The Princeton Review rates Alfred University among the best 371 colleges and universities in the nation, an honor awarded to fewer than 10 percent of all institutions.

Each of the colleges and schools is fully accredited, and the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences has one of only 270 Phi Beta Kappa chapters in the nation. The Alfred University College of Business is accredited by AACSB International, a claim only 30 percent of undergraduate business schools in the country can make. The accreditation underscores AU’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement via peer review.

Size and Location

For many students, Alfred University’s size is ideal. The University’s facilities — including numerous computer labs, performance and art studio spaces, two libraries and a wide range of research facilities — are readily accessible to all students. With a student-to-faculty ratio of 12:1, professors are acquainted with all students in their classes. Located in the wooded foothills of the Allegheny Mountains in the Village of Alfred, the Alfred University campus is picturesque, with a blend of carefully restored older buildings and new facilities. It’s difficult to tell where AU’s campus ends and the village begins, because the school and town blend into one seamless, close-knit community that cares about the unique needs of students.

Research and Outreach
Alfred University’s research and outreach programs provide an important complement to the University’s academic offerings. These programs range from scientific research and product development, to community and business support, to the development of new art forms. The University undertakes more than $12 million worth of sponsored research annually, an unusually high number for an institution of its size, but a good measure of the quality of the research program.

Student Life
Alfred University students have available to them a wide variety of programs and activities that enhance the college experience. Whether it be on-campus theatrical productions, live entertainment, intercollegiate and intramural athletics, musical performances or the more than 100 clubs and organizations, there is something for every student at AU.

Results
Alfred University students have reported an impressive job placement rate, with the 2006 survey of recent graduates confirming that an impressive 99 percent of those reporting are either employed or in graduate schools. The University’s Career Development Center offers students the resources they need to begin a meaningful and enriching career. The Center offers one-on-one career counseling, a wide variety of workshops, mock interviews, computer resources and assessment tools. Internships and cooperative education programs provide students with valuable work experience.
